Living in Durango, Colorado, offers a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and a vibrant community atmosphere. Nestled in the heart of the San Juan Mountains, this area is known for its stunning landscapes and outdoor recreational opportunities. With its charming neighborhoods and welcoming residents, Durango is an ideal place for those seeking a balanced lifestyle. This guide explores various aspects of living in this picturesque region, providing insights into what makes Durango a special place to call home.

Durango is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. The area is surrounded by breathtaking mountain ranges, providing endless opportunities for hiking, biking, and skiing. The Animas River, which runs through the region, is perfect for kayaking and fishing. Residents often take advantage of the numerous trails and parks, such as the Animas Mountain Trail, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Whether it's a leisurely walk or an adventurous climb, the natural beauty of Durango is always just a step away.  La Plata County is approximately 70% public land, so everywhere you turn, you will find access to open lands to recreate.  I'm happy to share some of my favorite local hikes and mountain bike rides....I might keep my favorite fly fishing spots to myself! :-)
